MONTEGO BAY, St James —— Dancehall artists Mavado and Mr Lexx, who both appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday on separate charges, had their cases put off.

Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, had his case postponed until March 7. His lawyer, Martyn Thomas, told Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry that the other attorney, Christian Tavares-Finson, was unable to be present and that they requested the new date.

MAVADO… facing charges of malicious destruction of property and assault

Mavado is facing charges of malicious destruction of property and assault arising from an incident in rural St James in July last year.

Mavado’s promoter, Gregory Lindo, who was also in court yesterday but facing Senior Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris, had his bail extended and given a new trial date of June 6-7.

Lindo is charged with perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Allegations against Mavado are that on July 22 of last year, the complainant and his son were in a Toyota Camry along the Belmont main road when they came up on a long line of traffic and pulled off the road, which was dug up.

It’s alleged that Brooks then drove up in a black Range Rover and told the complainant to move out of the way as he was not going to drive his vehicle over the stones. However, the complainant refused.

The court heard that Mavado then used the wheel of his vehicle to squeeze the man between his car door and the car, causing swelling to his foot and a cut to his shoulder.

Lindo was held in a sting operation by members of the Anti-Corruption Branch at a Montego Bay shopping centre after he allegedly attempted to hand over a sum of money to one of the complainants.

Meanwhile, Mr Lexx, whose given name is Christopher Palmer, pleaded not guilty to possession of ganja that was found in a hotel room where he was standing at the door.

His case will be mentioned on April 19.
