“We are in the business of books. And like every project, the aim is to secure a profit and so far we have been very successful. Our distributors are very happy with us” said Leesah Larmond, who is director of operations.
“We do not print limited amount of books as some other publishers do. We aim for thousands as we distribute islandwide in outlets including bookstores and pharmacies. We also go on book tours in the United States to ensure that our books do not stay on the shelf,” she said.
Larmond explained that it was her husband’s idea to start the company. She said he wants to encourage people to read, but sees venture as a medium to teach people lasting values that will impact on their lives positively. She further stated that each book is selected based on the content.
“We are not trying to be classical… we keep it real and publish books that people can relate to and not the type that has a fairy-tale ending,” said Leesah Larmond.
PageTurner Publishing House does not only cater to dancehall and reggae artists alone, but to anyone who possesses excellent writing skills and is interested in getting their novels published. This is evident in their 2011 publication written by United States journalist KC Samuels titled Jamaica’s First President, Dudus 1992-2010, His Rise, His Reign, His Demise. The 306-page investigative novel centres around the life of the extradited don Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
This summer the publishing house will be adding religious and children novels to their catalogue with the first being gospel artist’s Why Me God.
