Former Executive Director of Jamaica AIDS Support for Life Stacey-Ann Jarrett is calling for national dialogue on the issue of negative lyrics being sung by Jamaican dancehall artists.
Her call comes after Telecommunications company LIME dropped upcoming artist Potential Kidd’ from a promotion which would have involved a performance at a school concert.
Jarrett wants members of the music and media industries including the Broadcasting Commission to collaborate on arranging an event to discuss the impact of music on the social ills in the country.
The issue came to the fore following concerns about the content of the unedited version of Kidd’s single Ah Yah So Nice.
Potential Kidd has reportedly apologised to persons who may have been offended by the lyrics which portrayed violence against women and homosexuals.
