Plans are underway for a massive cleanup exercise for Downtown Kingston.

The announcement was made this morning at a ceremony organised by the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC), to launch the 140th anniversary of Kingston as a city.

Chairman of the Kingston Restoration Company (KRC), Morin Seymour said the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), the KRC and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce have agreed on a plan of action over the next four weeks.

He said the NSWMA will be dispatching letters to all merchants in Downtown Kingston advising them about the rules relating to the disposal of garbage.

He said the merchants will also be reminded of the penalties that will be applied if there are breaches.
