The police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire that caused damages estimated at over $60 million at the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) power plant on Marcus Garvey Drive, in Kingston Friday evening.

The Constabulary Communications Network, says the probe has so far revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

The Tivoli Gardens Police say shortly before 6 o’clock yesterday workers saw smoke coming from the section of the plant where the electrical control panels are located.

Several units from the York Park Fire Department responded and conducted cooling down operations.
