A survey by the Kingston and St Andrew Health Department has revealed that almost 90 per cent of the 120 communities in the Corporate Area are heavily infested with rats.
The communities of Waltham Park and Hagley Park roads are reported to be so badly affected, they are accounting for 50 per cent or more the infestation.
The data was presented by the parish disaster and public health committee of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation during a meeting currently underway.
Only 13 communities have been listed as having no infestation.
They include a majority of Upper St Andrew communities.
Fifty-five other communities have been deemed as being heavily infested containing infestation of 15-49 per-cent.
Dr Sandra Chambers, medical officer for the Kingston and St Andrew Health Department, said the survey started last September and was just completed.
She also outlined a plan of action to begin as part of a wider clean up campaign.
