BRITISH re-issue company, Trojan Records, is doing its part to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence.

The label will be releasing rare and classic songs from various Jamaican artists and label each month, according to the unitedreggae.com website.

BURNING SPEAR and Toots & The Maytals … will be some of the artists on Trojan Records’ albums

Trojan’s head of marketing, Johnny Hudson, is quoted as saying that “the themed monthly releases are just one of a number of exciting initiatives we are rolling out to mark the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence. Trojan Records and its artists have played a significant part in the history and cultural influence of Jamaican music, so we’re incredibly excited to be associated with this landmark event. We’re also looking forward to announcing several other exciting partnerships for this year soon.”

In May, six titles dubbed ‘Classic Island Records Artists’ will be released. They are Toots and the Maytals’ Pressure Drop, Black Uhuru’s ‘Guess Who’s Coming/Best Of and Steel Pulse’s Prodigal Sons, as well as ‘best of’ collections from Sly & Robbie, Burning Spear and Aswad.
