Brian McKnight fans, don’t be alarmed. Even though the singer just had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles heel, he’ll still make his upcoming shows. Just don’t expect him to be dancing across the stage.

“I don’t really need my foot to sing,” Knight quipped.

He suffered the injury while playing basketball.

“It wasn’t that painful but it was shock,” McKnight said. “It felt like somebody hit you and you look around — who ran into me? — and there’s nobody there.”

“It’s the first injury I ever had in my whole life so it’s pretty frustrating.”

New flash — McKnight plays hoops. We’ve gradually leaned more and more about McKnight as his career as progressed. We first knew him as a sultry romantic singer with hits like “Anytime” and “Back at One,” then as a radio host (on New York City‘s former Kiss-FM) and a TV host on his own syndicated, and well reviewed, variety show, “The Brian McKnight Show.”

Recently, he’s been cast as a proud dad whose sons, Brian Jr. and Niko, have a viral hit song with “Marry Your Daughter.” The track has more than 12 million views on YouTube. You can follow travails of the McKnight clan via blogs, music, videos and more on the new www.mcknight360.com.

Now, get ready for the mature Brian McKnight. He’s just posted a decidedly R-rated song, “If You’re Ready To Learn,” on YouTube and it went viral. Last week, he officially released it on iTunes as “iFUrReadyToLearn.”

The lyrics would make R. Kelly blush. McKnight said he wrote and recorded it in the midst of going a little stir crazy with the injured heel.

Now people are learning about another side of McKnight.

“I watch sports. I’m a guy. I’m a regular guy,” McKnight said. “The last 10 years I really wanted people to know who I was as a person and mix that in with the music and the real me is sort of in the middle.”
