The People’s National Party (PNP) has confirmed that the suspected mastermind behind the lottery scam who was arrested on Saturday is one of its supporters.
Kenrick Stephenson, more popularly known as “Bebe” was arrested during a raid in the upscale community of Coral Gardens in Montego Bay, St James.
Contacted this morning, PNP deputy general secretary, Julian Robinson, said Stephenson has been a supporter of the party.
But he could not immediately say if Mr Stephenson was a registered member.
Robinson also could not address claims that Mr Stephenson was a financier of the PNP’s election campaign.
The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre made several unsuccessful attempts to reach PNP Region Six Chairman or South St James MP Derrick Kellier.
Kenrick Stephenson, has been charged with unlawful possession of property and abstracting electricity from the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS).
Stephenson’s brother, Calvin Stephenson, who was also taken into custody on Saturday has also been charged with abstracting electricity from the JPS.
The police say arrangements are being made to have both men appear in court this week.
In the meantime, investigations are continuing into their alleged involvement in the lottery scam.
The police say during Saturday’s raids, several high end vehicles were seized.
