Radio personality George ‘GT’ Taylor can easily be described as being multi-talented. It can also be said that he is a man that wears many hats in the music industry. The popular IRIE FM jock started out in the 1970s as an MC for RHT Invincibles Band long before he got involved in radio.
Under the guidance of Ed Bim Lewis of the famous 70s comedy duo Bim and Bam he later got into acting in the early 1980s, making appearances as in popular plays such as Gun Court Affair and Obeah Wedding.
“I used to be an actor before I got into radio; from a very early stage in my life I have always been involved with entertainment in one form or another.”
Over the last 20 years GT Taylor has emerged as one of the most popular DJs on IRIE FM with his popular Thursday and Friday night shows, he is also a top MC.
While working on radio he has also undertaken a number of entrepreneurial ventures including the running of the once popular Occasions Night Club in Braes River St. Elizabeth and Club Classique night Club in Santa Cruz and White House in Westmoreland. Both clubs were hugely successful during the 1990s.
“Throughout the years I have enjoyed tremendous success on radio and this has encouraged me to explore other areas of entertainment. For a number of years I operated two of the most successful night clubs in rural Jamaica, that was a very good experience, I learnt a lot from the night club business.”
However GT eventually left the club business to focus on the development of his annual Christmas night Concert, GT’s Christmas Extravaganza. This event has grown to become one the biggest calender events in Jamaica and attracts visitors from far away territories including the USA, the UK and Europe.
“After I left the club business I decided to focus on the growth of my stage show and this decision has led to the creation of what is now one the most anticipated stage shows during the Christmas holiday season. I am very grateful for the success of this event; it’s taken a lot of hard work and support from my family, friends, colleagues, the sponsors and most of all the patrons to make it what it is today,” said GT.
GT has also don the cap of sound system operator and record producer, running his GT Aggregation sound-system and His GT’s Production label. Under his record label he has recorded and released numerous rhythm projects featuring top reggae and dancehall artists including Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Anthony B and George Nooks.
GT is currently promoting his latest rhythm project called the Rockin Rhythm. The project features songs from artists such as Khago, George Nooks, Lutan Fyah, Hero, Mikeylous, Delly Ranx, Villa Dutch and P Zed.
“A lot of people might not know this but I have been producing music for a while now, one of my biggest hits as a producer was Happiest Days of My Life done by Mavado and Vybz Kartel. Right now I have wonderful new rhythm out called the Rockin Rhythm every song on it is a hit, right now several of the songs on the rhythm are doing very well both at home and overseas, it’s really going great.”
