Grammy Award-winning R&B legend Gladys Knight has been added to the stellar line-up for the 2012 Groovin’ In The Park concert which unfolds at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York, on July 1.

“Gladys is a music icon and one of the biggest R&B stars. We are honoured, excited, and sincerely grateful to have such an icon in our stellar line-up,” Christopher Roberts, CEO of Groovin Inc, parent company of ‘Groovin In The Park’, said.

Gladys Knight is the latest in announcements of big stars for the event which includes Beenie Man, who will be making a return to performing in the United States at the concert.

The powerful vocals of Gladys Knight have graced some of the biggest songs of our time and have shaped the history of R&B.

Four-time Grammy winner

In a dazzling career that spans several decades as a successful R&B singer and songwriter, the four-time Grammy winner has etched her name in the annals of music history with hits like Midnight Train To GeorgiaI Heard It Through the GrapevineFriendship TrainIf I Were Your WomanI Don’t Want To Do Wrong and the Grammy-Award winning Neither One of Us, which has made her a household name to millions of fans globally.

Last year, the ‘Empress of Soul’ grabbed headlines for delivering a memorable performance at the tribute concert for the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, that featured Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé, and Smokey Robinson. She was in the spotlight again after being honoured with a Legend Award at the third annual Soul Train Awards, broadcast on BET.

Earlier this year, Knight competed on the 14th season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, partnering with Tristan McManus.

Through her television appearances, Knight has won a generation of new fans with her gutsy performances each night.

Knight will also be joined onstage at Groovin’ In The Park by Boyz II Men, Jimmy Cliff, and Beres Hammond.
