President Goodluck Jonathan

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, and the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan are to pay a State Visit to Jamaica from August 2 to 3.

This, the first State Visit to Jamaica by President Jonathan, is in commemoration of Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence.

Among the highlights of the visit will be the holding of bilateral talks between Prime Minister Simpson Miller and President Jonathan, and courtesy calls on the Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen and Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness.

President Jonathan and his First Lady will attend cultural activities staged by the Ministry of Youth and Culture by its Jamaica 50 Secretariat and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC); and be hosted at a State Luncheon by the Governor-General and Lady Allen.

In 2007, Jonathan was inaugurated as Nigeria’s Vice President and was sworn in as President on May 5 2010.

Jonathan has been recognised internationally for his leadership in the promotion of democracy and good governance.
