NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) —
The chairman of the main opposition party in the Bahamas has died while campaigning for a candidate in a parliamentary by-election.
The Free National Movement says Charles Maynard apparently had a heart attack while he and another party official were in North Abaco driving from a campaign event. Maynard was 42 and had previously served as a cabinet secretary.
A statement from the party said Maynard died early today. He and Party Secretary General Michael Foulkes were in North Abaco to help a candidate from their party in the by-election to fill the vacancy left open by the resignation of former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.
