ROCHESTER— At around 9 p.m. Friday police and fire crews responded to reports of tents blowing over at the weekend Vermont Reggae Festival held at the Rochester Fairgrounds.

Fire Capt. Don McCullough said while the tents belonging to several food and merchandise vendors were bolted down correctly, strong winds earlier in the evening amid a thunderstorm uprooted the tents and merchandise.

McCullough estimated the loss of food and goods of about four or five tents to be in the range of thousands of dollars.

Additionally, at least three vehicles were “moderately” damaged nearby as the tents blew into them, with one sustaining windshield damage.

The Vermont Reggae Festival, titled “Fountain of Stars,” is scheduled to be held throughout today, according to the group’s Facebook page.
