Reggae legend Pato Banton plays at 11 p.m. Friday at the Alibi.

Born in London and raised in Birmingham, England, Pato Banton has performed with his bands Crucial Music and Reggae Revolution, and toured with Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Burning Spear, Third World, Yellowman, Black Uhuru, and Dennis Brown and Steel Pulse. He worked with Sting on a reggae remix of “This Cowboy Song” and a remake of the Police classic “Spirits in a Material World.”

Working with Peter Gabriel’s organization, WOMAD, Pato Banton toured in Europe, Australia, North and South America, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. Through his organizations Muzik Links and School of Musical Arts and Technology in England, he has helped at-risk youth become involved in musical opportunities. He received the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his community work and the Black Music Award for Lifetime Achievement.
