TWO Jamaicans may have been on a canoe travelling from the Cayman Islands to Jamaica which went missing at sea, Cayman authorities say.

The Cayman Compass reports that the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Air Operations and Marine Units have been involved in an extensive search for the missing canoe since last Thursday.

“The canoe is believed to have left Grand Cayman on Sunday August 19, heading for Jamaica. The purpose of the trip has not yet been established,” the report says.

In addition, three West Bay, Cayman men were on board the canoe.

“It has been suggested that two Jamaican nationals may also have been onboard, but that has not yet been confirmed,” the report says.

When the men did not return on Thursday, their family members called the police.

An extensive sea and air search extending to Jamaica was conducted.
