Nadine Sutherland

By Richard Johnson——

THE fair-sized audience which gathered at the Red Bones Blues Café on Friday night for the concert featuring singer Nadine Sutherland were in for a treat.

Little did they know that among the friends which Sutherland had included in her cosy, intimate show, was deejay Terror Fabulous, with whom she partnered on the 1993 international hit Action.

Terror Fabulous

The deejay has been absent from the local music scene for a number of years. However, on Friday night it was as if he never left the stage.

The audience burst into spontaneous cheer as Sutherland introduced the artiste. Timidly taking the stage, with shy glances at his audience, he warmed up quickly and burst into Action, which sounded as fresh as it did nearly two decades ago. So taken up in the moment, the audience demanded more of Terror Fabulous who would return for an encore performance of Anything for You — the hit single which also featured Canadian reggae act Snow, and a string of deejays Buju Banton, Louie Culture, Kulture Knox,

and Beenie Man.

She would use this incredible high to cap the second half of her entertaining show which she closed with a new tune, Karma and her encore track, Marley’s Redemption Song in G.

The night could however be described as the soundtrack of Nadine Sutherland’s life. Commencing with some of her early tracks, she took the audience on a personal and professional journey, each stop punctuated by a song. The Tracks included Babyface, Down on my Knees (her personal search for a partner), Man Haffi Wicked and Cougar.

Prior to Terror Fabulous’ entry, the Redbones stage was graced by her friends which included reggae empress Marcia Griffiths, former Rising Stars finalist Natel, who showed great maturity and showmanship as he delivered a lively, one-drop reggae track I’m Sorry.

The night’s star power only got brighter when she introduced a be-spectacled Tony Rebel. He drew from his arsenal of hits, firing in rapid succession Sweet Jamdown, Teach the Children, Nazarene Vow, Reggae Put Jamaica pon Top and Garnett Silk’s Splashing Dashing.

The series of concerts at Redbones continues this Friday with a performance by singer Tessanne Chin.
