PRODUCER Kareem Burrell pays tribute to his late father on a new eight-song album, titled Living Heart.

His father, veteran producer Phillip ‘Fattis’ Burrell, died last December at age 57.

According to Burrell, the album’s lead song, Do it Now, is by Beres Hammond, Fattis’ long-time friend. Living Heart also features Love Rebel by Kayla Bliss, her last song for the producer.

Other performers on the compilation are singers Richie Spice, Jesse Royal and Lutan Fyah.

Burrell, who turns 23 this year, says although following in his father’s footsteps is difficult, he is determined to stay true to his musical legacy.

“My dad was a perfectionist and this was highlighted through the music he produced. He was authentic and stayed true to the roots, which is why I intend to produce only clean, authentic music as he was a firm believer in good reggae/dancehall music,” he said.

Living Heart is the latest project by Burrell. In July, he released a mixtape called Project X to celebrate his father’s birthday.

Project X was the first mixtape on the newly-formed XTM Nation label. It has 27 tracks by dancehall/reggae acts like Sizzla, Lutan Fyah, Ini Kamoze and Hammond.

Phillip ‘Fattis’ Burrell was founder of the Xterminator label, one of the most successful labels in modern reggae.

Some of his finest productions are Where There is Life, the 1995 album by Luciano; Hotter this Year (Ini Kamoze), Man With the Handle (Sanchez) and Run Things (Sugar Minott).
