KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — A Jamaican is among three people who were killed in a plane crash at Antigua’s VC Bird International Airport Sunday, the Observer has learned.

The Jamaican has been identified as Annya Duncan, a math teacher in Montserrat. Duncan celebrated her birthday the same day as the fatal crash.

According to reports a twin-engine Britten-Norman Islander plane crashed on take-off from a rain-slicked runway about 4:00 pm. The ill-fated small plane was headed from Antigua to the nearby island of Montserrat, where the airline, FlyMontserrat, is based.

FlyMontserrat spokeswoman Karen Allen said late Sunday that she could only confirm the death of the pilot, whose name was not released.

Antigua’s airport was closed for at least an hour Sunday afternoon as emergency officials responded to the fatal crash
