Singer CK is riding high with her new single Party Up In Here which was released this month.

The track was produced by Timothy ‘Quik Keyz’ Kahwa. A music video for Party Up in Here is also in the works.

CK… I fantasised about being the next Brandy, Monica or Janet Jackson

CK, whose real name is Clara Kahwa, says her love for music goes way back.

“My mom said she had to stop going to church because the moment I heard music as a baby, I was heading to the altar to perform. So I guess my love for it started then,” the 28-year-old told Jamaica Observer.

Though born in the United States, CK grew up in Jamaica. She has a soulful sound based on her biggest influences: Janet Jackson, Brandy and Monica.

“I sang a little in high school. I was in the choir for a while then opted out but I fantasised about being the next Brandy, Monica or Janet Jackson,” said the former St Andrew High School student.

Her first single — done in May this year — was True Colours, a remake of the Cindy Lauper classic. The song and video were produced by Karl Morrison of Starplayer Music Group and directed by Gad Savage of 13th Tribe Video Production.

Other releases followed including Rescue Me, Mr Heartbreaker, Lap Dance and So In Love.

“My aim as an artist is to give the audience a show every time they watch me, whether through the choreography in my performance or through the passion I display while singing my songs,” she said.
