When was the last time you actually saw Mya? That’s what we were thinking when we came across this new video she dropped recently called “Take Him Out.” But it’s not the “Movin’ On,” “Case of the Ex” or “My Love is Like Whoa” type of Mya we’re used to. This new jam and its accompanying video features Jamaican female rapper Spice, and is more reggae than Mya’s usual pop and R&B selections. In the video, Mya is seen cleaning up after a grown a** man who seems to only like sitting on the couch watching television. She reminisces about the good times but acknowledges that homeboy got too comfortable and she’s not having it. Hence, she’s going to “take him out” like the trash. Clever. I guess…On top of that, the singer, Spice, and all the other women poppin’ that “thang” in the video are dressed like sanitation workers, but Halloween style in bras and booty shorts as they ride the back of a garbage truck and dance around in a field. The dance breakdown is good, as Mya has always been able to bust a move with the best of them in the R&B game, but aside from that, this video is doing the most.

The song, I will say, gets kind of catchy after a while, especially when you get to the chorus. However, she could have saved the fake Jamaican accent because it was off. Oh yeah, and all the awkward lip colors folks were rocking in the video could go with the accent too. It’s a colorful video and song, and I see her trying to do something new and different, but personally I’ll pass. She’s still cute though! The song is featured on the deluxe version of her album, K.I.S.S.
