The Premier of the Cayman Islands, McKeeva Bush has been arrested.
Bush, 57, was taken into custody around 7 o’clock this morning following a number of investigations.
A statement from the Caymanian authorities says officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Financial Crime Unit arrested Bush at his home in West Bay.
He has been arrested on suspicion of theft, in connection with financial irregularities relating to the alleged misuse of a government credit card; breach of trust; abuse of office and conflict of interest, contrary to the Anti-Corruption Law 2008.
Bush also accused of being involved in the alleged importation of explosive substances without valid permits on or before February 2012.
Bush was expected in Jamaica this week to be honoured by the University College of the Caribbean.
