MARLEY, British director Kevin MacDonald’s documentary on reggae legend Bob Marley, has been nominated for a NAACP Image Award.

The awards are organised by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The documentary examines the life, music and legacy of the reggae icon who died in 1981.

It is one of six nominees in the Outstanding Documentary (Theatrical or Television) category. The other contenders are: Black Wings (Smithsonian Channel); Brooklyn Castle (Producers Distribution Agency); First Position (IFC Films); On the Shoulders of Giants – The Story of the Greatest Team You’ve Never Heard Of (Showtime)

The winner will be announced February 1 during a two-hour special on NBC, ABC and CBS.

Marley, which premiered at Emancipation Park in Kingston in April of this year, has also been nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
