“Too often do we hear radio disc jocks saying they are against negative lyrics, yet they are the same ones ‘pulling up the songs’. There are lots of conscious acts out there dying to be played on the airwaves even once,” he said.

Kashu said despite this hurdle, his musical spirit is not dampened as his aim is to reap long-term rewards.

“My aim is not to make a song that will be forgotten in weeks. Therefore, I never singay about trends and styles that changes. Instead, I record songs that everyone can relate to — one has to be realistic,” he said.

The Vere Technical past student who returned to the island last week after performing at a gig in St Marteen is preparing for the release of his debut album Campaign to Champagne.

The artist added that in order to promote the album, he will be having an album launch and listening party in his hometown of Clarendon on January 31.

Kashu emerged on the dancehall scene in 2002 with the single Nutten Na Gwan. Other songs followed including Higher Level, Mi Amor and his most recent Me No Wa Buss Again.
