After a successful 2012, reggae artist I-Octane is already gearing up to make 2013 memorable. The artiste has officially launched his own record label, Conquer The Globe Productions, and has already released a new single that has been creating waves on the local scene.

“I actually started to promote the brand itself before I started producing. This year I’m gonna produce a few tracks for myself and a few tracks for new artistes. Over the years I have been recording for different labels and now it’s time for me to own some of my material,” he told The Gleaner.

In addition to that, I-Octane stated he wants to make a significant contribution to the music industry by honing the talent of up-and-coming artists.

“I also want to contribute to reggae music and bring new artists to the forefront so that reggae music can have a new crop of artists. Each year we have a new generation so the music itself can have a fresh look and a fresh sound. I don’t want to just gain a loan from reggae, I also want to contribute to it. That’s the reason I came up with the label, to contribute to reggae music,” he went on to say.

DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

His latest single Gal a Gimme Bun has also been doing well, with many fans wondering if I-Octane was singing from personal experience.

“It’s definitely not a personal experience, but people go through these types of challenges daily. Often times musicians sing about what they have gone through and who a get bun etc. but I just tried to spin around the story and give it a different perspective. Sometimes because we feel like we high and mighty we feel like nutten like that cyaah happen to wi. I know people would gravitate to a topic like this so I just decided to think outside of the box,” he said.

According to producer Seanizzle, though it is just January, the song is shaping up to be among the best produced in 2013.

“This was produced by myself and Troyton Music and so far the feedback has been tremendous. Many persons are not used to I-Octane singing a song like this, they are mostly used to his conscious songs so this song has definitely heightened the excitement of his fans. It’s promising to be a mega hit,” explained Seanizzle.

DEBUT ALBUM

I-Octane also released his debut album last year titled Crying to The Nation. He told The Sunday Gleaner that although sales were good worldwide, it could have been better.

“It did well across the world, but could have done greater. However, it is a great accomplishment to know that I have a debut album that people refer to as one of the best albums over the last five years in Jamaica. So yes, it could have been better, but I am an independent artiste, I’m not signed to any record label and Robert Livingstone and I are putting in the work so fans can definitely look out for a second album soon.

“Last year was a great year, lots of accomplishments, lots of mistakes, trial and error but I’m definitely gonna improve. I’m nominated in lots of awards across the world so that’s also a great accomplishment for me. This year I will definitely be putting in more work.”
