Sophia BrownFresh off a successful year in which she released an album and toured extensively, reggae songstress Sophia Brown is donning the hat of producer early this new year and releasing a brand new rhythm that will feature a number of established artistes, and some new ones as well.

The singer, who besides her talent, is known for her sex appeal, is revealing that this new rhythm, called ‘Reggae in Motion’, is already showing the kind of leg power she likes.

“The response has already been tremendous,” she said of the rhythm that will officially drop tomorrow. “I thought it would have created some kind of vibe on the airwaves, but the response I have been getting just by sending it out to the different media houses, radio stations, has been magnificent.”

Reggae in Motion is being released on Brown’s label, Musicmecka Records. It was named by Stephen Stanley and will feature songs for veterans like Anthony Red Roze, Warrior King, Lady G, as well as a duet between Brown and Fiona Robinson. Anthony Q also has a song on the rhythm that also has emerging acts Droop Lion and OJ.

Brown argues that getting the new acts on the rhythm was essential for her. “We have to keep refreshing the music, because if we don’t do that we will have no future,” she said. “So we are featuring new acts Droop Lion and OJ on the rhythm.”

Zojack Worldwide will distribute the songs which Brown says will be heavily promoted this year. As for her own work, Brown flies out for stops in Brazil in February immediately following the Grammy Awards at which she will be a guest.

She received her invitation recently and said she is looking forward to attend. She hopes to form mutually beneficial partnerships from alliances she intends to form while there. Before she jets off to South America, though, she will be performing at the Rottotam 20th anniversary celebrations set for Jamaica on February 16.

Brown had a busy 2012 and looks set to have an even busier 2013. The singer recently opened an office on Dumbarton Avenue, from where she intends to get a bit more into management and public relations for entertainers, and she also has another rhythm coming out in March. The new rhythm is in the final stages of production with mixing and the addition of background vocals currently in progress.

The thrust in this new direction, she says, is due mainly to the success achieved last year which helped push her popularity and broadened her fan base, which has opened doors for her to explore other opportunities. “Now is the right time to venture out into new things,” she said.
