There has been a call for entries for the second International Reggae Poster Contest.

This following the inaugural staging last year which was won by Israeli artist Alon Braier with his Roots of Dub entry.

The brainchild of Jamaican-born, US-based artist Michael Thompson and his Greek business partner Maria Papaefstathiou, the contest has as its aim the discovery of fresh reggae poster designs from around the world.

The first staging of the competition attracted 1,142 entries from over 80 countries.

The top 100 posters from the contest went on display at the National Gallery in downtown Kingston.

According to the organisers, this year it’s left to be seen whose work will take it home as entries are now being invited for the 2013 contest with the final call being March 30.

Just like last year, the winning posters will be determined by international design professional judges and will be published in a catalogue/book, exhibited and auctioned, with proceeds going to help establish a Frank Gehry-designed Reggae Hall of Fame Museum and performance centre in Kingston, as well as raising funds for both the Alpha Boys’ School and Help Jamaica! charities.
