Protoje—

February, Reggae Month, heralds the arrival of Protoje’s sophomore album, The 8 Year Affair.

According to the artist, the follow-up to The 7 Year Itch is about the expectations and challenges that often accompany growth and success.

Veritably poised to be hailed as Reggae royalty in the making, The 8 Year Affair album was master-fully produced by Donovan ‘Don Corleon’ Bennett, and is reminiscent of reggae in the early ’80s, when ‘hotsteppers’ like Ini Kamoze, Sly & Robbie and Black Uhuru were the big names of the day.

When asked about the album’s signature and what listeners can anticipate, Protoje commented, “The sound is much better than the first album. We explored some different themes on this one also.”

The 8 Year Affair takes listeners through many moods, with songs that speak directly to the human condition, making it a relatable and resonant work.

Protoje’s vision for his music is to inspire people to ask more questions and be more vocal. “I want the songs to make people think. At the same time, it’s a very relaxed vibe. Nothing over 80 beats per minute.”
