French label to release Freddy McKay album

FRENCH independent label Iroko Records plans to reissue Tribal Inna Yard, a critically-hailed album by singer Freddy McKay.

The company made the announcement recently, according to the www.unitedreggae.com website. Produced by Linval Thompson, Tribal Inna Yard It was released in 1983. A release date for the album has not been announced.

McKay, who died in 1986 at age 39, was best known for songs like Picture On The Wall and Dance This Ya Festival, the 1976 Festival Song winner.

Born in Linstead, he was among a group of musicians who emerged from that St Catherine town in the late 1960s. Most of them formed the Soul Defenders band which included percussionist Joseph Hill, future leader of the group Culture.
