FIVE artists have been nominated in the Best Reggae Recording category of the 2013 Juno Awards which takes place at The Brandt Centre in Saskatchewan on April 21.

The Juno is the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

The nominees are Move Ya by Elaine ‘Lil Bit’ Shepherd; Radio by Ammoye; Storms of Life by Exco Levi; Yours to Keep by Makeshift Innocence; and Made for Love by Melanie Durrant.

Toronto-based Exco Levi (Wayne Ford Levy), won the Juno Award last year for his song Bleaching Shop.

The 32-year-old deejay, who was raised in Clarendon, migrated to Canada in 2005.

Locally, he has recorded for producer Shane Brown’s Juke Boxx Music label and Donovan Germain’s Penthouse Records.

Ammoye is another Clarendon native who has lived in Canada for 17 years.

Her first Juno nomination is for the Kemar ‘Flava’ McGregor-produced single Radio.

This is also the first nomination for Durrant, who is well known on the Canadian music scene and roots-reggae act Makeshift Innocence.

Elaine ‘Lil Bit’ Shepherd, who was born in Bahrain, moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1997.

She won a Reggae Achievement Award in 2010 for Most Promising Reggae artist. One year later, she was awarded a Juno for the song Likkle But Mi Tallawah.
