Necessary Mayhem, a label out of the United Kingdom, has made an album from one of the most prolific reggae artists of any era, Gregory Isaacs.
The label is claiming, Gregory Isaacs: Remixed, which is set for release on April 15, as one of its most important releases of 2013.
Necessary Mayhem enlisted legendary record producer Curtis Lynch to produce the album, which has taken 10 of the very best tracks from the Gregory Isaacs and Gussie Clarke catalogue (1984-1999).
Isaacs, who passed away in 2010, was hailed ‘the most exquisite vocalist in reggae’ by the New York Times.
Masterpieces
In the 1980s, Isaacs was signed to Island Records and released his best-known track, Night Nurse, which took the clubs by storm in the UK and in the United States. Over his lifetime, Isaacs released numerous albums and was nominated for four Grammy Awards.
Lynch, who heads up the Necessary Mayhem label, has worked with some of the biggest acts in the business, including Gorillaz, Alicia Keys and John Legend.
The tracks Lynch has selected for the album are his personal favourites, saying that “The clear unmixed vocals and instruments were bliss for me. These masterpieces have been remixed and reworked by some of the industry’s finest musicians and audio engineers.”
Tracks selected from Isaac’s unforgettable albums of the late 20th century include Judge Not, Private Beach Party, Red Rose For Gregory, I.O.U and Absent All.
With early radio and club support from Sir David Rodigan, the remix ofPrivate Beach Party will be released on March 11 via iTunes.
