619 Entertainment Group, a Philadelphia-based record label owned by four Jamaicans, is broadening its roster by signing rock outfit Post Sun Times.
The label, which opened its doors four years ago, has as its principal founders Roger Grant, Bentonn Dunn, Marcello Johnson and LinvalOsbourne.
The four Jamaicans came together under a common goal, all having an interest in the entertainment business.
619 Entertainment houses a recording studio, and artiste management section, as well as engages in CD duplication and marketing.
After taking under its wings reggae acts Princess Thundah, Hefla Nyah and Asfa, the label, being US-based, decided to venture further out of their comfort zone by handling the management of Post Sun Times.
“The group is not too far from what we are doing as they also play reggae, but with a rock feel,” said CEO Roger Grant.
“Lovers of the Police and The Clash will also like PST,” he said.
As for Post Sun Times, it is a quartet that came together in 2011. The members previously played in different bands, but discovered that they all liked a kind of music that was different from what they were playing.
The band is made up of Adam Fergguson on drums, Matt Kay on bass and vocals, Matt Smith on keyboards, and Robin Carine on guitar and vocals.
After meeting Grant, they became more active and have already started to make a name in Philadelphia and in the Tri-State Area.
Last year, the group played in its first major show, The People’s Festival in Wilmington, Delaware, co-headlining with Chuck Fender, Sister Carol and Leon and The Peoples.
The group is working on its first EP, which 619 Entertainment is also producing. Negotiations for a major label to handle distributions are now in train.
