(Kingston, Jamaica):—

This past, Saturday Tuff Gong Jamaica joined independent record shoppes all over the world in celebrating International Record Store Day. Customers that showed up for the special open house were treated to free posters, stickers, and photos of some of the many superstar artists that Tuff Gong represents including FloRida, Wiz Khalifa, Trey Songz, Bruno Mars, and of course Bob Marley. Event partner FAME fm had been giving away gift certificates all week, and winners came to cash them in for CDs and earbuds from House of Marley. House of Marley also set up a special listening station where visitors could sample the new 30th anniversary version of Bob Marley’s KAYA album (in stores this week). Guest selectors DJ Nicco, Yaardcore, and Rassarella of Zion Train International were on hand to spin current hits and classic favorites. It was definitely a family affair as the Marley Coffee cart stopped by to serve.

FAME winner Richie Smith, of St. Catherine, showed up to collect his prize and then hung out to enjoy the festivities. “I didn’t know that Tuff Gong has so much big music,” he said. Another visitor, Dan, said that he has wanted to visit Tuff Gong since his job relocated him to Jamaica from Canada. “I saw the ad in the paper and made sure it didn’t miss me.”

The day, designed to showcase how much record shoppes and artistes appreciate the fans who still patronize their stores in this digital age, originated in California in 2007. Music was the order of the day. Wholesale and retail customers alike found top titles at special “one day only” prices. This was Tuff Gong’s first time participating in the event, but it definitely won’t be the last. The iconic record company plans to expand the event next year to include more international and local favorites.
