New York-based promoter Christopher Roberts, CEO of New York City’s annual reggae and R&B concert, Groovin In The Park, announced recently that R&B icon Patti LaBelle and reggae legend Sanchez have been added to the line-up for the June 30 concert.
It will be held at the Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have superlative icons Ms LaBelle and Sanchez on Groovin In The Park this year,” Roberts stated. “Each year, we go after the best available talent to satisfy our very demanding New York City music lovers and, although this addition has just been made, we are already receiving waves of tremendously positive feedback.”
Labelle’s trademark is her magnificent vocal range. She is credited with selling over 50 million albums and her extraordinary success has spanned over five decades. Labelle has won many awards in the music industry, including two Grammys in the R&B category. She has been inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame and has a star on the HollywoodWalk of Fame. She has gone into acting as well as being a TV host, author and a celebrity chef.
Her hits include On My Own, If Only You Knew, New Attitude, Stir It Up and Music Is My Way of Life. In the past, Patti Labelle has performed and vacationed in Jamaica.
Sanchez erupted on the reggae scene at Reggae Sunsplash in 1988 after delivering a performance that won him several encores. His iconic single Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone, a remake of a Jermaine Jackson album cut, set Sanchez’s career in motion. With some 30 albums under his belt, his vast catalogue includes favourite originals and covers such as like Sorry, Never Dis The Man, One In A Million, Let Me Love You Down and Old Friends.
Patti LaBelle and Sanchez will join Toots and the Maytals, TGT (Tyrese, Genuine, Tank), Barrington Levy, Cocoa Tea and Queen Ifrica at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens.
