Tourism interests in St Ann are reporting that Ocho Rios is seeing a marked decrease in tourist harassment.

Addressing the recently held annual general meeting of the St Ann Chamber of Commerce, former president Kumar Sujanani said the reports of harassment have dropped.

While not providing figures, Sujanani said the positive improvement is due to the work of the police, with support from the tourism ministry and the business sector.

Tourist harassment has been an ongoing problem in Ocho Rios and has been blamed as one of the main factors which has driven cruise ship passengers from the Ocho Rios port to the newly built pier in Falmouth.

Sujuanani stressed that the drop in tourist harassment is a welcome relief for tourism interests in the town.

Recently elected president of the St Ann Chamber of Commerce, Oral Heaven, has pledged to continue the efforts of the chamber in seeking to uplift the parish.

Heaven, who is a bank manager, was the sole nominee to fill the vacancy created after Leopold Williams declined to seek reelection after one term in office.

Heaven said he would be seeking to bring business back to the Ocho Rios pier.
