WITH his Penthouse Records label one of the most successful in reggae/dancehall history, producer Donovan Germain knows a thing or two about making hit records. He said he used an age-old formula when recording his latest beat, the Street of Gold.

“We try and make a good song every time. We never look at a particular time or sound, it’s just a nice, catchy rhythm,” Germain told Splash

The Street of Gold album was released in early July and contains songs by Duane Stephenson (Rastafari For I), Shuga (Give My Soul to Jah) and RC (Don’t Let Them Lead You Astray).

Penthouse Records was a mainstay of the 1990s dancehall revolution. It helped nurture the careers of Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, Garnet Silk and Tony Rebel. The label is also responsible for introducing Marcia Griffiths and Beres Hammond to a new generation of fans during that decade.
