REGGAE singer Simple D is intent on being part of the current roots revival.

The Youths Them is her most recent contribution. The track, produced by her own It’s the Roots Production label, speaks to the daily challenges youths face.

SIMPLE D… I am just keeping it real for everyone in society

“I am just keeping it real for everyone in society,” said the 38-year-old mother of six.

Simple D, whose real name is Deon Wright, was born in Scotts Pass, Clarendon. She currently resides in St Martin.

She believes her music can serve as upliftment for every individual in society.

“I write about what I see happening around me,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

With a musical journey starting in 2008, her previous recordings include Mr Gunman, Nuh Mek Dem Get You Down, Mama Belly It A Boil, and Hardcore Juggling.

“I am not from a musical family, but I have always loved music,” she said.

She lists Bob Marley as her main influence.

“Reggae is my style and I’m a Rasta myself,” she said.
