The Mighty Diamonds to play District 26th October

Oyé Touring and Trading are set to bring the sounds of Jamaica back to the UK this month with one of reggae’s longest running trios, The Mighty Diamonds. About to embark upon a ten date tour around the country, the trio will be visiting Liverpool on the 26th, playing at the Baltic Triangle’s District (formerly The Picket) and promising to “entertain the crowds and spread a message of unity and love”.

Formed in 1969, the band’s line-up remains unchanged. Over their lengthy careers, lead vocalist Donald ‘Tabby’ Shaw, and harmony vocalists Fitzroy ‘Bunny’ Simpson and Lloyd ‘Judge’ Ferguson have produced over forty Mighty Diamonds albums. With a strong Rastafarian influence the band also list Jamaican rocksteady artists among their inspirations as well Motown vocal groups of the 60s such as The Temptations who inspire the trio’s well-known smooth harmonics and choreographed stage shows.

Joining The Mighty Diamonds will be French reggae and dancehall duo HandCart Band and as a treat for the Liverpool audience, the night will also feature DJ sets from One a Penny Sound, mixing dub, house and hip hop sounds in to what promises to be a great night of reggae and roots music.
