Having laid the groundwork for his career with several recordings and memorable stage performances in 2013, DJ Libran is determined to make 2014 his breakthrough year.

“2014 should be the big bang for Libran,” the DJ told Entertainment Avenue in a midweek interview, hours after performing at Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios.

Originating from Manchester, Libran (real name Lamon Cousins) was inclined to do music from an early age but started taking it seriously five years ago, even while holding down a daytime job.

Since 2011, he has done nothing but music, and this year he has gained more recognition than ever with releases such as NowadaysGo Get MineSexy Body featuring Chico, his self-produced The Way You Wine, and his latest single Love Bath, which features Ngeno.

Libran has come a long way. In his childhood days his father used to tell him to cut out the noise in the bathroom, as he sang in the shower. His sisters used to say he was annoying as he was constantly singing or deejaying.

“At the end of the day this is my calling,” he explained. “I’m just doing what I was gifted to do and I’m trying to do it in a positive way.”

Taking his stage name from his birth sign, Libra, which signifies balance, Libran has challenged himself to keep his music positive.

“A lot of songs come to me but I don’t do every song that comes to me, some of them I put away. Things flow through your thoughts but at the end of the day it’s what you hold on to that makes the difference in a man. So I hold on to mostly positive songs.”

Over the past two years, Libran has worked hard to promote himself and his music with little to show for his efforts.

However, he is convinced that his hard work will begin paying dividends soon.

“From 2013 start I’ve been doing a lot of shows, MoBay, St Thomas, Mandeville, Ochi, working in the studio, on the streets. It’s like I’m ubiquitous!” he stated.

“For 2014, it will be a lot of hard work, non-stop. In 2014, I just want to put in some work to reach the fans, to do what I am here for, because everybody is here for a purpose. I just want to educate, uplift and entertain with my way of doing what I do, which is music.”

Libran is currently in discussions with interested parties as he seeks to put a management team in place to propel his career to the levels he desires.

For him, going forward is all about music.

“I’m not doing music by choice. I didn’t get up and say I want to do music, music is embedded in me, it’s in my bloodstream.”
