Bluesfest boasts some seriously impressive reggae on its line up for 2014 and one of the biggest acts on the bill has locked in three sideshows next April.
The Wailers was the band that backed the great Bob Marley back when the undisputed king of the genre was still kicking and, while the membership of the band is a lot different these days, they do a great job of keeping these incredible reggae anthems alive. You know the songs – No Woman No Cry, Get Up Stand Up, I Shot The Sheriff, Could You Be Loved, just to name a few – and we can tell you that seeing them played by some of Jamaica’s best reggae musicians is a brilliant musical experience.
As for Sly & Robbie, they have played on an enormous number of reggae recordings (one statistician says its something like 200,000) over the years including some seriously important records by everyone from Monty Alexander to Mick Jagger to Serge Gainsbourg to Jimmy Cliff and so many more.
Sly & Robbie & The Taxi Gang featuring British vocalist Bitty McLean will join The Wailers for one big reggae party in Sydney alongside their Bluesfest commitments.
