PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Former Trinidad and Tobago Calypso Monarch, Winston Bailey, the ‘Shadow’ said he was “lucky” to be alive after gunmen stole his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at his home in Mount Hope, east of Port of Spain.
“I am glad to be alive. I heard shots fired and am lucky to be here. There is plenty confusion and crazy thing,” Bailey told the Trinidad Guardian newspaper on Tuesday.
He said the gunmen appeared to have been lying in wait for him, he said noting “I was just coming outside and he jumped in the car and drive off. I went in the yard and somebody rushed past me and jump in the car….”.
Bailey, who won the Road March title in 1974 and 2001, was crowned Monarch in 2000. A year later he won the International Soca Monarch title and in 2003, he received the Humming Bird Medal (Silver) national award.
