HILADELPHIA (CMC):
Currency amounting to nearly US$100,000 was seized from two unidentified women destined for Montego Bay, Jamaica, by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency on consecutive days earlier this month.
CBP said the women had violated federal currency reporting regulations and that the first woman had been stopped as she attempted to board a flight to Montego Bay on January 4.
It said that the unidentified woman had originally indicated that she was caring US$4,900, but that search of her carry-on bag and checked luggage reveled a total US$65,643.
CBP said that on the following day, another unidentified woman attempting to board a flight to Montego Bay also reported having in her possession US$6,000, but a search later indicated that she was carrying US$31,040.
CBP said while none of the women had been charged, the cash had been seized.
CBP said the Port of Philadelphia had seized US$1.3 million in unreported currency last year.
