Veteran reggae artist Super Beagle is riding on the attention he received after his classic single Dust A Sound Boy was sampled by Grammy Award-winning rapper Kanye West, by releasing a new album.

Though he is yet to decide on a name for the album, Super Beagle has already released and remixed a lead single.

The album’s lead single is called Mama Cry, a song denouncing crime and violence while drawing attention to the turmoil parents go through, particularly mothers when they lose a child violently.

The remix of the song features ’90s stalwart deejay Terror Fabulous, who was also sampled by American rappers Ace Hood and Vado for an effort called Gangster Anthem.

The remix to Mama Cry is called What Have I Done, and will also be featured on Super Beagle’s soon-to-be released album.

Mama Cry and What Have I Done were produced by Super Beagle via his 20-year-old record label, Fresh Breed productions.

The artist told The Gleaner this was the first major production under his own label since returning to Jamaica and severing ties with an international label.

“I am back in Jamaica after many years, and I am putting back my label in the market now. I am working with US-based co-producer DJ Hand Gun and things are looking good, because he is pulling his energy from Las Vegas where he is a prominent DJ,” Super Beagle said.

“People are saying they love the songs, and Mama Cry is already getting played on Irie FM and Sun City radio. Right now, I am just working to get the music to other stations, plus doing my street homework. Veteran sounds like Stone Love are already playing it as well because the song makes sense and it’s current, plus the rhythm is original and not some knock-off rap rhythm,” the veteran said.

INTERNATIONAL AIRPLAY

Super Beagle also disclosed that Mama Cry is getting rotation on some radio stations in the United States, Europe and Japan. However, he intends to boost the promotion for the album, courtesy of tours of the Caribbean and Europe.

The veteran artist also commented on what it was like to work with the relatively elusive Terror Fabulous.

“It’s great to have worked with Terror on a track and he is looking forward to the promotion of the collaboration because he believes in the message. He did gun songs before, but that is a thing of the past, so he appreciates a fresh and positive message,” he said.

Super Beagle says videos of the songs will be released in a matter of weeks.
