Singer, Tessanne Chin, and athlete, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, are the 2013 Gleaner ‘Persons of the Year’.
Chin and Fraser-Pryce were announced joint winners a during a function at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
Chin, the winner of the entertainment category, and Fraser-Pryce (sports) emerged from a field of seven other categories.
“Today we have with us a special group that shows you what’s right with Jamaica,” Christopher Barnes, managing director of The Gleaner, said earlier.
This year, two special awards were presented – Javon Francis in the sports category and Knutsford Express in business.
The Gleaner Award winners were selected by a designated committee headed by Professor Gerald Lalor.
Weeks before the event, the public was invited to make submissions.
For 2013, over 73 submissions were received.
