SINGER Anthony Red Rose was new on the music scene in 1984 when Wayne Smith hit with the game-changing hit, Under mi Sleng Teng.
Produced by Lloyd ‘King Jammys’ James, it was done on the computerised Sleng Teng beat which launched dancehall’s digital era.
Smith died Monday, February 17, at the Kingston Public Hospital at age 48.
Red Rose had a hit on the Sleng Teng with the risqué Under mi Fat Thing. He followed up with Tempo, both produced by legendary engineer/dub master Osbourne ‘King Tubby’s’ Ruddock.
The dreadlocked Red Rose still records today. His latest songs are Fire and Ice with Assassin; Your Girl a Your Girl (with Bugle) and the solo The Hardest.
