Describing his latest album as inclusive of a “variety of genres that everyone can enjoy”, artist D Major is all set for the release of his debut album, It’s Major, on May 28.
Distributed by VP Records, D Major told The Gleaner that though he could have released the album independently, he believes it deserves a good distribution company behind it.
The album has already been generating a buzz in Europe and Africa, and D Major is confident that the 18-track effort, which features collaborations with platinum-selling artist Busy Signal and Grammy-winner Lady Saw, will resonate with audiences worldwide.
“People have been sending me video recordings of my songs being played in clubs in several countries. So, we are already gearing up for a European tour this summer,” he said.
With many artists clamouring to ensure that their albums appear on charts and are bestsellers, D Major told The Gleaner his main aim is to ensure that everyone gets a copy.
“I just want everybody to get a copy of It’s Major, so that they can know who D Major is and what I have to offer.”
He added that although many artists have released albums with one genre, his album is unique in that it comprises several.
“You have lovers’ rock, old-school reggae, rude-bwoy reggae and party songs. All these themes will be explored on the debut album. It has a song for everybody. It’s definitely not one-dimensional,” he said.
With songs such as Naked, Straight and Narrow and Real Know Real, D Major says he has definitely seen a difference in the reception of his music when compared to his earlier efforts.
“People know the songs. Sometimes, even I am surprised at how well they know it. Even if my songs are not on charts, it’s definitely in people’s hearts.”
With production credits going to Penthouse Records, Rissin Music and Notice Production hopes that It’s Major will open new markets and allow him to gain new audiences.
“This is me. Everything that inspires me is in this album.”
