Many consider him the man leading the soca revival across the globe, and a recent record deal may be what he needs to successfully cross over into the international market.

When The Gleaner caught up with Bunji Garlin a week ago Saturday at the Best of the Best concert in Miami, the soca viking revealed that he had just signed an exclusive deal with RCA and VP records.

The two labels will join forces to promote Garlin’s hit Differentology (Ready For The Road). The artist said he was happy with the partnership and was looking forward to working with the label.

“It’s an honor, and I look forward to all the possibilities and what it may mean for soca music,” he said.

Following the deal, VP Records CEO Chris Chin was quoted in online reports, saying the partnership represents a step forward for Caribbean music.

Differentology is a song that has proven itself well beyond the core audience and connected to so many through mainstream radio airplay. We are now primed for RCA to propel this track to the masses,” Garlin said, though he could not reveal any details on the deal.

The entertainer said he was working on some new tracks and would be doing a number of shows in the coming months. He put in an impressive performance at the Best of the Best concert, thrilling the audience with his energetic set. He put his lyrical ability on display with impromptu rhymes that put the massive gathering at the Miami Bayfront Park in a frenzy.

He is expected to be back in Miami in October for Socavival and was the only Caribbean artist on the Hot 107 Summer Jam line-up, which featured Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj, and Trey Songz.

His explosive single Differentology (Ready For The Road), which was remixed by Major Lazer as well as Busta Rhymes, is currently a massive hit in North America.

In 2013, the single received a Soul Train Award for Best International Performance and was featured on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

Earlier this month, Garlin made his national TV debut on BET’s 106 & Park. He also recently released his EP Carnival Tabanca and is gearing up to release his studio album later this year. It is expected to be his first full-length release since 2007.
