Andre Hylton–

KINGSTON, Jamaica—Eastern St Andrew Member of Parliament Andre Hylton in his Sectoral Debate presentation today (Tuesday, June 17) called for the Government to include Mandarin in schools’ curriculum.

Hylton made his appeal based on what he said is the socio-economic influences of China in Jamaica and the world by extension.

“In Eastern St Andrew we are cognizant of the socio-economic position of China in Jamaica and the world over. But how can we truly maximise the benefits of the relationship unless we speak the language? I am therefore suggesting the inclusion of Mandarin in our schools’ curriculum. It is one of the languages of the future,” said the People’s National Party (PNP) MP.

The Sectoral Debate began on May 6 and is scheduled to end on July 2.
