ONE of Kenya’s top female DJs and actress Pierra Makena is gearing up to perform alongside Jamaican reggae and dancehall superstars Ce’cile and I-Octane next month in the US.
The voluptuous 32 year-old actress, who gained massive fame for her starring role on Mnet-screened Kenyan TV drama series Changes, will be touring the USA starting July 2 -22, where she is scheduled to perform on various stages with the Jamaican musicians and Tanzania’s bongo heartthrob Diamond among others. During the tour dubbed The Shake Up, Pierra will perform in some of America’s key cities including Dallas, Kansas, Washington DC, Atlanta, Seattle, New Jersey, New York and Texas.
“This is one of the biggest deals I have ever got so far. I feel excited and humbled to know that this is a sign that my job as a DJ is getting recognised out there. I now believe that I am really going places. Since I joined the deejaying industry, I have received a lot of support from fellow DJs, fans and other Kenyans. I could never be thankful enough. I could not have made it if I was doing this without their support. My two managers based in New York have also worked hard for this and I am also grateful to them,” she told Word Is.
She added: “One of the objectives of my tour is to show the world that Kenya has talented female DJs too and in the process, break the monotony of only promoting male DJs while their female counterparts can do the same too.”
Upon her return to Kenya, the mix-mistress cum radio presenter and film director/producer will then head to Ghana where she will star in a new movie.
