Downsound Records has been a major player in the Jamaican music industry for over a decade.
Since setting up shop locally in the 1990s the company which is owned and operated by American business man Joe Bogdanovich, has become the driving force in the local music industry.
“We’ve been here for a while now and we’ve worked with a lot of people in various areas of the business. We’ve built up a good reputation as successful, management, music production and events company.”
The Downsound boss is extremely optimistic about the future of his company.
“So far we have done a lot and we have accomplished great results, but I believe the best is yet to come. Right not I am working with a great stable of artists which includes seasoned veterans like Ninja Man. There’s no one to compare Ninja Man with, he’s in a class by himself. I mean look at his career, this guy has been around for decades and he is still a force to be reckoned with in Dancehall music. Harry Toddler is the other veteran in the camp, he’s a constant hit maker who knows how to connect with the streets.”
“We also have an exciting crop of new acts including Nature, who I believe is the most vibrant young Reggae act in Jamaica. He knows how to write and record good songs, and he’s a very good stage performer. Ishawna is definitely going to be the next big female star in Dancehall music. She has the talent and the drive to make it and her fan base is growing rapidly. Specialist is very talented too, he and Harry Toddler are currently racing up the charts right now with their hit song called Enjoy Yourself.”
Bogdanovich also highlighted the fact that artist development is an area in which Downsound has invested in heavily over the years.
“Downsound is big on artist development, if you look at our history you will see what we did in the past with artists like Fantan Mojah, Nanko and I-Maroon. We took those artists and developed them from scratch and made them into popular acts. That’s what we are doing all over again. Just take a look at two of the youngest acts in our camp Don Husky and Naazir. Don Husky is currently making an impact on the local music scene with his hit song On and On. Naazir is also doing well with a track called Turn Up ft. Don Husky. We are doing a lot work to develop these new acts.”
Bogdanovich also said the success of his company and its artistes is not based on luck but dedication to hard work.
“Downsound is professional organization, we don’t believe in luck, we believe in hard work. I have a great team of people working with the artistes daily to ensure that we get the right results. All the artistes are constantly rehearsing, writing and recording songs. If you come to our offices you will see that we don’t play around we mean business.”
With two of his charges Ninja Man and Nature booked for Reggae Sumfest, Bogdanovich as usual is revved and ready for more success.
“Ninja is going to Dominate Dancehall night at Sumfest this year. Why not? He’s hot, he has several songs on the charts, the people love him and he’s natural born performer he’s going to rock place. Nature is also going to do very well on international night one. He’s hot right now he has the number song in Jamaica.”
